a study of the relationship between myocardial performance index and left ventricular end-diastolic pressure in patients with left ventricular systolic dysfunction
Authors
abstract
abstract introduction: doppler echocardiography is used to evaluate global myocardial performance. an index of myocardial performance (tei index) can be of great prognostic value in heart failure. this study was performed to assess the correlation between tei index (ti) and left ventricular end diastolic pressure (lvedp). methods: the study group consisted of 38 patients. each patient underwent ventriculographic evaluation (all had ef≤45). eighteen patients had lvedp<15 (14 males, 4 females, 57±6 years old) and 20 subjects (15 males, 5 females, 56±7 years old) had lvedp≥15. using doppler echocardiography, ti was determined for all patients and compared. results: mean ti value was significantly different between subjects with lvedp<15 and those with lvedp<15 (0.55±0.18 vs. 0.76±0.19, p<0.001, t=4.1). discussion: in patients with systolic heart failure (ef≤45), ti was significantly lower in subjects with lvedp<15 compared to those with lvedp≥15. thus, ti may be useful for noninvasive assessment of lvedp in heart failure. keywords • tei index • ventricular performance • heart failure

A Study of the Relationship between Myocardial Performance Index and Left Ventricular End-diastolic Pressure in Patients with Left Ventricular Systolic Dysfunction
INTRODUCTION: Doppler echocardiography is used to evaluate global myocardial performance. An index of myocardial performance (Tei Index) can be of great prognostic value in heart failure. This study was performed to assess the correlation between Tei Index (TI) and left ventricular end diastolic pressure (LVEDP). METHODS: The study group consisted of 38 patients. Each patient underwent ventricu...
full textechocardiographic assessment of inappropriate left ventricular mass and left ventricular hypertrophy in patients with diastolic dysfunction
background: early diagnosis of left ventricular mass (lvm) inappropriateness and left ventricular hypertrophy (lvh) can result in preventing diastolic left ventricular dysfunction and its related morbidity and mortality. this study was performed to determine if diastolic dysfunction is associated with lvh and inappropriate lvm. methods: one hundred and twenty five uncomplicated hypertensi...
full textThe Impact of Cardiac Rehabilitation on Pulmonary Artery Systolic Pressure and Left Ventricular End-Diastolic Pressure in Patients after Coronary Artery Bypass Graft Surgery
Background:Cardiac rehabilitation program (CRP) is a useful method of modifying cardiovascular risk factors, improving life expectancy and quality of life in patients with ischemic heart disease (IHD). The present study was conducted to evaluate the effects of cardiac rehabilitation on the pulmonary artery systolic pressure (PASP) and left ventricular end-diastolic pressure (LV...
full textHigh myocardial 18F-FDG uptake after chemotherapy in the presence of left ventricular dysfunction as well as 3-month later with no left ventricular dysfunction
Diffusely increased glucose metabolic activity in the right and left ventricles using 2-deoxy-2-(F-18) fluoro-D-glucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (18F-FDGPET/CT) and global left ventricular hypokinesia at echocardiography can be evident in acute myocarditis. But, there has been no case report that the ventricular 18F-FDGuptake remains unchanged even ...
full textRelationship of the pulmonary artery end-diastolic pressure to the left ventricular end-diastolic and mean filling pressures in patients with and without left ventricular dysfunction.
The relationship of the left ventricular end-diastolic pressure (LVEDP) and the pulmonary arterial "wedge" mean pressure (PAWMP) to the pulmonary artery enddiastolic pressure (PAEDP) was investigated by cardiac catheterization in 71 subjects. Pressure records were obtained simultaneously or immediately consecutively. In 15 subjects with normal LV function (LVEDP, 4 to 12 mm Hg) PAEDP was within...
full textLEFT VENTRICULAR DIASTOLIC ABNORMALITIES IN β-THALASSEMIA MAJOR WITH NORMAL SYSTOLIC FUNCTION
In order to identify left ventricular diastolic function in patients with betathalassemia major and normal systolic function by noninvasive M-mode and Doppler echocardiography, an analytic study was designed in a university hospital in Sari. We have studied 44 patients (23 men and 21 women), mean age 15.48±2.16 (range 12 to 20) and 43 age and sex matched control subjects. Peak flow velocit...
